Web-scale Platform Built on 1,000+ Node OpenStack Cluster Demonstrates Open Infrastructure Expertise.
SAN FRANCISCO ( Business Wire ) // October 24, 2016 // Solinea, a global provider of open infrastructure solutions for deployment and adoption of production clouds, in partnership with ITOCHU Techno-Solutions America, Inc., have deployed a container orchestration platform based on Kubernetes, together with a continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) set of processes and supporting toolchain to enable YJ America Inc., a subsidiary of Yahoo! JAPAN, to rapidly deploy applications and services on top of their existing OpenStack cloud platform. The Kubernetes platform and agile CI/CD processes will enable YJ America to achieve their objectives of increased agility (speed to market), efficiency, enhanced customer satisfaction and cost reduction.
Solinea led the architecture, design and implementation of both the container orchestration platform based on Kubernetes and the CI/CD processes and toolchain infrastructure. The latter was crafted using open source solutions including Docker, Packer, Jenkins, jFrog’s Artifactory and github. To solve the challenges of container networking, Solinea incorporated Project Calico into the solution fabric. The resulting orchestration layer, CI/CD toolchain and networking fabric was then integrated into the existing YJ America OpenStack cloud.
“YJ America has very specific objectives in how it expands its capabilities in the US in order to support its customers,” said Norifumi Matsuya, YJ America Inc. VP of Cloud infrastructure engineering Division. “One of these objectives is to accelerate our ability to adopt new infrastructure technologies to increase speed to market of new services for our customers, such as big data analytics platforms, in a cost effective manner. Solinea was instrumental in architecting and deploying the resulting DevOps and container orchestration solution, from developing the proof of concept to rolling out the production platform.”
“Solinea’s knowledge of the technologies and expertise at designing the right solution for our needs helped YJ America achieve its objectives in the right timeframe. Through Solinea’s partnership and expertise around open source ecosystem for the hyper scale architecture, YJ America and ITOCHU Techno-Solutions America, Inc. could make this happen. We would like to expand this case study and success to the Japan market with Solinea,” said Hisatomo Tanaka, Director of International Sales and Solution Engineering, ITOCHU Techno-Solutions America, Inc.
“YJ America had very specific targets for the new infrastructure,” said Francesco Paola, Solinea CEO. “It needed to integrate into the existing OpenStack cloud, enable the rapid deployment of new applications and services, scale on demand and it had to be secure. Solinea’s expertise in DevOps, Docker, Kubernetes and OpenStack was the right combination to implement a complex solution in record time.”
The feature is built upon seamless, auto-aggregated source data from the core OpenStack components, enabling analysis and exploration of difficult-to-navigate core data.
